Privacy Policy

Roost is a one-person studio in Virginia. This policy explains what information I collect, why, and what I do with it, in the plainest language I can manage. If anything here is unclear, write to me directly at lynsie@roost-studio.com and I will answer personally.

The short version: I collect only what I need to build your Coop, take your payment, and stay in touch. I do not sell your information, I do not run ads, and I do not share your data with anyone except the handful of services listed below that make Roost work.

Who I am

What I collect

Information you give me in forms. Intake forms, the family welcome survey, and the feedback widget collect what you type: names, email addresses, phone numbers if you provide them, business details, and whatever you tell me about how you work or what your family needs.
Payment information, handled by Stripe. When you pay, you are on Stripe's secure checkout. I never see or store your full card number. I receive from Stripe only what I need to run the business: your name, email, what you bought, and whether the payment succeeded.
Content inside your Coop. Whatever you and the people you share with put into your Coop: lists, notes, photos, schedules, menus, whatever it holds.
Basic technical information. My host records standard server logs. The feedback widget also records the page you were on and your browser and screen size, so I can reproduce whatever you are reporting.

What I do with it

Build, deliver, and maintain your Coop.
Take payment and keep the records a business is required to keep.
Email you about your Coop: confirmations, delivery, questions, and occasional notes about Roost. Every non-essential email has an easy way out.
Fix problems and improve how Coops work.

I do not sell your information. I do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to advertisers. There is no advertising in any Coop.

The services I rely on

Roost is small, so a few trusted companies do the heavy lifting. Each one holds only the piece it needs:

Netlify hosts the website and Coops, stores form submissions, and stores Coop content.
Stripe processes payments and holds billing information.
Resend sends transactional email such as confirmations and notifications.
Google Workspace hosts my email, so anything you write to me lives there.
Anthropic powers the AI-assisted features in some Coops. When you use one (for example, photographing a worksheet so it can be turned into text), the content you submit is sent to Anthropic to generate the result and returned to you. It is used to produce your result, not to sell to anyone.

If I ever add website analytics, it will be a privacy-focused, aggregate service, not one that builds advertising profiles, and this page will say so.

Something important about how Coops work

Unless your Coop has a password or access gate that I built for you specifically, anyone who has your Coop's web address can open it and see what is inside. Coop addresses are not published or listed anywhere, and private Coops ask search engines not to index them, but that is tidiness, not a lock. Please share your Coop link only with people you trust, and please do not store anything in a Coop that would be harmful if a stranger read it: no passwords, financial account numbers, medical records, or government identification numbers. If your Coop needs real access control, tell me and we will build it.

Family Coops and children

Family Coops often contain children's first names, chores, and schedules, because that is what family life looks like. The adult who owns the Coop decides what goes in it. Roost is offered to adults, and I do not knowingly collect information directly from children. Please use first names or nicknames rather than full names, and please do not include anything about your children that you would not want an acquaintance to see. If you want something removed, ask me and I will remove it.

How long I keep things

Coop content stays as long as your Coop exists. Form submissions and email stay in my records so I can serve you well over time. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. If you want your information deleted, see the next section.

Your choices

You can ask me at any time to show you what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Write to lynsie@roost-studio.com and I will take care of it, usually within a few days and always within thirty. Virginia residents have specific rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, and residents of other places may have similar rights; whoever you are and wherever you live, I will honor these requests the same way. Some records, such as payment history, I may need to keep for legal and tax reasons even after a deletion request.

Security

Payments run through Stripe and never touch my servers. The website and Coops are served over encrypted connections. I use strong authentication on the accounts that matter. That said, no method of storing or sending information online is perfectly secure, which is the honest reason for the warning about Coop addresses above.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, tell current clients by email.
