My husband asked for something simple. Hurricane season was coming, and he wanted one place to keep our storm prep straight instead of the usual scramble of half-remembered checklists and a weather app with sixteen tabs open.
So we built the Steele Storm Coop.
What it does
It pulls live weather for our area, no app-hopping. It has our prep broken into zones: the house, the yard, the cars, the go-bags. There is a threat strip across the top that changes when something is actually headed our way, so a glance tells you whether today is a "relax" day or a "bring in the patio furniture" day. Four little color themes, because even storm prep can be pleasant to look at.
the real point
A storm Coop is most useful in the exact moment life feels least calm. That is when you do not want to be assembling a checklist from memory. You want to open one link and see what is done and what is left.
What family coops are actually for
People hear "family app" and think chores and calendars. And sure, a family Coop can hold those. But the ones that really land are the ones built for a specific moment your family keeps living through. The storm. The beach week. The stretch when a new baby means nobody remembers anything.
A family Coop is not trying to organize your entire life. That is exhausting and nobody keeps it up. It is trying to make one recurring hard moment easier, and to be there, calm and ready, when that moment comes back around.
Ours has weathered a few storms now. The patio furniture makes it inside on time. And when the sky turns green, we open one link instead of sixteen.
